As I opened my laptop to write, the desktop verse that popped up was 2 Corinthians 12:9..
“But his answer was: “My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ’s power over me.” (GNT)
I remember that Scripture verse fondly now but when I first had an encounter with it, I didn’t like it as much.
Back then I had a sleep disorder called sleep paralysis, I’d sleep and then be conscious but unable to move or speak, at other times I’d feel like I was being choked. It was terrible. I didn’t know (and I still don’t know) of any cure for this disorder but I knew I could pray about it. And that’s what I did but nothing changed…initially.
Not long after I went for a prayer retreat and continued bringing up this disorder as a prayer request before God. On the last day of the retreat, we were supposed to pick a random scripture verse that had been written out on a piece of paper and folded…I picked one and yes you guessed right..it was 2 Corinthians 12:9.
I was sad. Judging from Apostle Paul’s experience, I believed God was saying “No!” to my request but I later realized I was wrong, He meant “I would walk with you through this pain, I will make you strong and this disorder will no longer have power over you!”.
Weeks later, though the situation persisted, I didn’t panic anymore neither was I afraid I would die because of it anymore and just like that it almost became a “normal experience” and afterwards it stopped. I don’t have that disorder anymore. God didn’t answer then the way I desired but I got my healing anyways and a higher purpose of me learning to trust God even in the midst of pain and confusion was achieved.
That’s my goodnews report but this can also mean goodnews for all.. God’s grace is sufficient for trials, sickness, disappointment, losses etc, it is limitless and cannot be measured.
Know that regardless of the challenges you are facing or the sin you are struggling with, God’s grace (for support) is available for you, in fact it’s all you need to grow through and come out of that challenge victorious, it’s all you need to break free from the vicious circle of sin. It is when we come to the end of our rope, His grace takes over, when we admit our weakness to Him that His power comes into full expression.
He might not answer us the way we desire but we can be rest assured that since His plans for us are good, we can fully trust Him.
